Touchdown

Touchdown is an adventure!  It corresponds to Stage 3 in the
NSW K–6 curriculum and is read by confident, independent readers in late primary and early high school.

Here's what Touchdown readers say about their magazine:

"I think Touchdown is so totally awesome - it really puts a zing in school." (Jack)

"Your magazine just blew my socks off! My class and I also want to say that all your poems are magnificent and very poetic." (Jane)

"I am a big fan of the school mags and the best of all ... is Touchdown! We use the mags in reading groups and I always sneak them home to read." (Lucy)

"Hi Ed! I really admire your magazine. Why? 'Cos it's awesome. You know how to make education fun!" (Una)

Touchdown readers explore the highest quality literary texts, including:

  • poetry
  • stories
  • plays
  • articles
  • activities and recipes
  • word games and puzzles

Independent readers demand action, excitement, suspense and drama in their reading material, and Touchdown provides a feast of quality texts, all lavishly illustrated by leading Australian artists commissioned by The School Magazine.

Guiding them through the pleasures of independent reading are the Touchdown character mascots: the "Ed" and the team of three correspondents or 'stringers' who provide the content of the magazine. There's the dreamy Beyonce Horizons (stories and poems); the seasoned world traveller Phyllis Wong (nonfiction from near and far), and the slightly unreliable 'Pencils' Barrymore, who sometimes provides plays (jelly crises permitting).

In 2011 Touchdown readers will enjoy a new ten part graphic novella, called Alien encounters, by Peter Sheehan, and a ten part graphic serial called The boy who was never afraid by Craig Phillips.

To support your classroom practice, Teaching Units, written by experienced classroom teachers, are available with every issue of Touchdown.
