Changes to writer's fees and submission procedures in 2008

From 8 February 2008, writer's rates have increased. See the submission guidelines for details.

From 1 March 2008 we will not return manuscripts and all correspondence is by email only. We no longer accept international reply coupons, and you do not need to include a return envelope. You must include an email address. We will continue to send hardcopy notification of acceptances if requested. See the guidelines for more information.

Illustrators - eligibility list 2009 and expressions of interest for cartoon series 2009

The eligibility list of illustrators for 2008 issues has now closed but we are currently seeking expressions of interest for the creation of cartoon series for 2009. Email school.magazine@det.nsw.edu.au to request a copy of the specifications.

From July to October 2008, The School Magazine will be updating its eligibility list for occasional or regular commissioned work for 2009 issues. Before you apply, we suggest you familiarise yourself with our publication (copies are held in many children's libraries, as well as in university and state libraries).

Expressions of interest from artists who feel they have the appropriate skills and experience to illustrate literary texts for children should be sent from 1 July 2008 to 31 October 2008. When you apply, please send (i) a short CV/cover letter and (ii) a CD or hardcopy of relevant examples from your portfolio to:
