Food design: budgeting planning

The Consumer and Financial Literacy Professional Learning has been designed to build the capacity of teachers in primary and secondary schools to engage students in consumer and financial literacy. Consumer and financial literacy is about having the knowledge and skills to make good decisions about using and managing money.

The Food design: budgeting planning program has been developed by the Technology Unit in collaboration with the Technology Educators Association Inc to allow students to cost recipes.

Australian designers at work

On the Australian designers at work web site relevant tasks have been developed by teachers that directly refer to the web site and units of work have been modified to embed tasks focused on the site and which address outcomes 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.3. See examples of units and associated materials below.

Inspired by ME developed by East Hills Girls Technology High School features:

  • Area of study: Product

  • Technologies: Mixed material technologies and Information technologies
  • Assessment task focusing on the Australian designers at work web site.

Factors affecting design in the areas of study: Four activities have been developed to support students to examine factors affecting design in the areas of Built Environments, Products and Information and Communications.

Appropriateness of specific design solutions for different cultural groups (doc 106 KB): Students consider how two designers, Alison Page and Ray Parslow have responded to cultural issues in design projects.

Similarities and differences between designers (doc 184 KB): Students explore the similarities and differences between designers in their approach to their work.

Teaching literacy in Stage 4 Technology (Mandatory)

Digital media design for a web page provides teaching and learning activities for a unit of work on web design as well as teaching notes and student handouts. Students learn about web design and apply their learning to the development of their own web pages. Students also learn about the design process and factors that influence the design of information and communication products.
