Curriculum support for NSW Public Schools

Designs

The development of the designs for the refurbished science learning facilities has been based on research and input from head teachers of science from each region as well as curriculum experts.

The outcomes of the design development process resulted in generic designs that will be used as the basis for this program. The allocation of learning spaces to schools involved in this program takes into account current secondary school facilities standards and projected maximum school enrolments over the next five years.

Not all science learning spaces in targeted schools will be upgraded. Those learning spaces that are not upgraded will remain in their current state.

The designs have amalgamated and refined the findings of current research to further facilitate:

  • student-centered learning
  • an inquiry based approach
  • the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) that assist with the delivery of the curriculum into the 21st century to improve student outcomes.

The designs for the Science Facilities Upgrade have been developed and trialled in three schools in 2008.
