The following workshops will be offered to PDHPE teachers around the state in Semester 2 2008.

Promoting youth mental health in school settings

In Terms 3 and 4, the Department of Education and Training’s Curriculum Unit in partnership with the Inspire Foundation will present a series of one day workshops for secondary PDHPE teachers around NSW. These workshops will explore the nature of mental health and its influence on health and wellbeing. Teachers will investigate the links between mental health and health behaviours of adolescents and identify practical strategies to promote mental health and wellbeing in the school setting. The workshops will also be an opportunity to showcase the Reach Out Central interactive game and Reach Out! website as teaching tools in PDHPE.

Details of the workshops will be available on the Curriculum K-12 Directorate’s Professional Learning website that can be accessed at http://www.curriculumsupport.education.nsw.gov.au/prolearn08/semester_2/s_pdhpe.htm.
