Critiquing your PDHPE program

Now that you are completing the second year of the implementation of the new syllabus, it is time to reflect critically on the program developed by your faculty and identify any areas for further development.

A range of critiquing tools have been developed with the purpose to guide faculties through a reflection and evaluation process of their scope and sequence and units of work. The tools pose a range of critical reflection questions to allow teachers to explore whether the PDHPE program meets syllabus requirements, as well as providing students with relevant, challenging and engaging learning experiences.

Before undertaking the critiquing process, faculties need to consider the following.

  • How are you going to approach the task?
  • Are you going to work through the tools together as a faculty?
  • Are you going to work through the program critiquing process as individual staff members?
  • Do you want to review the whole program or start with selected units?

The following is a suggested process that faculties can undertake to use the tools to critique their scope and sequence.

Step 1: SWOT analysis

Step 2: Critiquing your scope and sequence

Step 3: Critiquing your units of work

Step 4: Developing an action plan
