Rethinking the teaching of games and sports
Sample lessons
Lessons based on the Teaching Games for Understanding approach begin with a very basic game that has clear rules that are adapted to the skill level and needs of the students. As students become proficient within the modified game, further rules are added to increase the challenge and complexity of the tactics being employed. Explicit teaching of skills is undertaken as students become aware of the success of the game being determined by skill level.
You can find a range of examples of games lessons that gradually build understanding of these fundamental concepts for each of the games categories. Use the links below to download the sample lessons.
