Sample units of work for Physical Activity and Sports Studies syllabus

This section will provide teachers with sample programs for implementing the Physical Activity and Sports Studies course.

Sporting champions: Born or made? (doc - 138kb)

This unit of work is designed to build on the knowledge and understanding students have developed surrounding physical activity and the elements which are essential in order to be a successful athlete. Students will be given opportunities to discuss and critically think about what makes a successful athlete and they will be questioned about the degree to which these areas are essential.

The main focus areas are nutrition, practice, and technology. Students will discuss how these areas may or may not have an impact on whether or not an athlete is successful. Students will be presented with many real life cases where athletes have been born or made. Students will be given opportunities to debate what type of athlete they think is more successful.

Everyone active everyday sample unit (doc - 80 KB)

In this unit, students explore the perceptions of peers and the local community in relation to physical activity participation by investigating current levels of participation. Common misconceptions about a range of less traditional physical activities can be challenged as students participate in a range of leisure activities that are available in the local community. Students then develop strategies involving the school and local community to promote the importance of regular physical activity to lifelong health. This unit provides opportunities for students to design their own class physical activity program for the term, taking into consideration what is available in the local community.

Everyone active unit: Quality teaching coding (doc - 86 KB)

Teachers can download a copy of the Quality Teaching coding for the Everyone active everyday unit. The unit of work was coded against the elements of the Quality Teaching framework using the Classroom practice guide.
