How can PDHPE teachers use this program?
The program can be easily modified for use in Stage 5 PDHPE, Stage 5 Physical Activity and Sport Studies or Stage 6 Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation.
Teachers can set up a program where:
- students in their class are responsible for the administration of an AFL competition and as well as being players in the competition
- students in their class are solely responsible for the administration of an AFL competition for a junior PE or sport class (depending on timetable)
- students in their class are solely responsible for the administration of a whole school lunch time AFL competition.
The AFL Sport Education Program allows students to assume a variety of roles that require a wide range of skills and abilities (along with playing the game). A role should be allocated to a student based on that which best suits the individual ability of each student. Time needs to be put aside for the students to be taught, practise and gain feedback on the roles they have been allocated.
What is provided to assist teachers and students in engaging in the program?
- A plan for the AFL program
- A plan for the implementation of the program
- A detailed description of the student roles and duties
- Resource sheets
- Lesson plans for teachers
