Digital Education Revolution NSW - Laptops for learning in mathematics

This one day workshop aims to engage teachers in learning activities and strategies to teach mathematics when every student in the class has a laptop computer.

Workshop sessions will include:


Understanding the laptop capabilities

  • Integrating mathematics and technology
  • Appropriate mathematics starter activities, including tips and tricks
    for using the laptops
  • Laptop classroom management tips


Using the software to teach mathematics

  • Investigating the software for learning mathematics
  • Designing a technology-rich mathematics lesson
  • Adding laptop activities to an existing unit of work


Exploring further ideas for laptops

  • Activities encouraging investigation and exploration
  • Ideas for collaboration
  • Curriculum Support website resources

Teachers who wish to register for this workshop need to be approved by the Principal to attend.

This workshop is available to NSW DET teachers only.

This course is registered with the NSW Institute of Teachers.

NSWIT standards addressed:

1.2.1

Apply and use knowledge of mathematics through effective, content-rich, teaching activities and programs relevant to the stage.

1.2.4

Apply current knowledge and skills in the use of ICT in the classroom to meet syllabus outcomes in the following:

  • basic operational skills
  • information technology skills
  • software evaluation skillls
  • effective use of the internet
  • pedagogical skills for classroom management.

6.2.3

Engage in professional development to extend and refine teaching and learning practices.

 What to bring:

·         One fully charged laptop per participant (please bring your own extension cord if required)

·         One mathematics unit of work, junior or senior

·         Current syllabus documents

Workshop registration

Once registration is completed, participants will receive workshop confirmation including agenda, venue and venue map.

Registrations close five working days before the scheduled workshop

A registration fee of $110.00 (incl. GST) for government schools will be charged for each participant. This fee includes morning tea and lunch and all workshop materials.
