Engaging students in mathematics 7-10

This one day workshop is specifically for teachers whose teaching method is not mathematics. The focus of the workshop is on the professional learning needs of teachers teaching mathematics 7-10.

Workshop sessions will include:

What is it all about? The essence of the 7-10 mathematics syllabus

  • The mathematics continuum
  • Strands, key ideas, working mathematically
  • NAPLAN – Year 7 and 9

How to enjoy teaching mathematics - strategies to engage learners

  • Planning a unit of work and the language of mathematics
  • A range of teaching strategies including learning objects
  • Managing the mathematics learning environment

Using assessment for quality teaching

  • Assessment for learning and assessment of learning tasks to use in the classroom

Professional teaching standards addressed: 3.2.4, 3.2.7 and 6.2.3

Workshop presenter: Carolyn McGinty    Senior Curriculum Adviser, Mathematics 7-12

Teachers who wish to register for this workshop need to be approved by the Principal to attend.

This workshop is available to NSW DET teachers only.
Registrations close five working days before the scheduled workshop.

Once registration is completed, participants will receive workshop confirmation, details of the venue and an agenda for the workshop.

A registration fee of $110 per day (incl. GST) for government schools will be charged for each participant. This fee includes morning tea and lunch and all workshop materials.
