Competitions and opportunities for teachers
CensusAtSchool 2008
CensusAtSchool is an innovative student centred learning experience that provides students with access to real, raw data about themselves. It aims to increase statistical literacy among Australian school students and raise awareness of the role of the Australian Bureau of Statistics within our society. Statistical literacy refers to the ability to interpret and critically evaluate data and information.
CensusAtSchool is a FREE data collection and analysis project aimed at students from Years 5 to 12, and is provided as an educational resource only. The project is conducted twice every five years, once with the Census of Population and Housing and once in between each consecutive census.
The second data collection is now open for your students to submit a Questionnaire. In 2006 over 112,000 students did so. This has provided a wonderful resource of a large database of relevant, up to date data about Australian students, FREE online.
SCHOOLS THAT REGISTERED IN 2006 can use the same SPN (School Participation Number). You will need to create new Teacher Accounts as this database has been cleaned out to allow teachers to generate new SANs (Student Access Numbers). Please call 1800 623 273 if you have forgotten your SPN and to update your contact details.
NEW SCHOOLS CAN REGISTER by completing and returning the Registration Form found at www.abs.gov.au/censusatschool
