This segment was filmed in September 2009. It features Stephanie Binstead an experienced Modern History teacher and marker giving advice to Modern History teachers and students on answering Section 1 of the HSC Modern History paper. This section is the first of four examination sections in the HSC. It is Section 1: Core Study: World War I 1914 – 1919: A Source-based Study and is worth 25 marks.

This segment features Dr Hsu-Ming Teo from Macquarie University. Dr Teo is an engaging, experienced educator who has delivered workshops for the History Teachers’ Association NSW in the past. In this segment she looks at the Weimar Republic, focusing on the successes and failures of democracy and the nature and role of nationalism. Dr Teo also refers to the impact of the Treaty of Versailles and to some of the political, economic and social issues in the Weimar Republic.
