Awards, Scholarships, Grants and Competitions

The following information has been arranged by application closing dates. 

Term 1

Writenow ! SMH young writer competition - Closing Date TBA
Writenow !
is an exciting writing competition that is part of The Sydney Writers' Festival. Students in years 7 -9 are eligible to enter. How it works: Students are provided with three story starters provided by award-winning Australian childrens book authors . They continue the narrative , completing a short story of up to 1000 words. Competition opens each year in Term 1.   

Term 2

National Literacy and Numeracy Week Awards - Closing Date - TBA
One aspect of National Literacy and Numeracy Week is an awards program that is designed to acknowledge schools who demonstrate excellence in teaching literacy and numeracy.  Each year, schools across New South Wales have the opportunity to showcase how they have raised their standards in literacy and/or numeracy through effective practice.

Premier's English Literature Scholarships - Closing Date - TBA
All teachers currently teaching English Literature in the subjects of English and Drama in NSW secondary schools and all teachers currently teaching English literature and Communication modules relating to creative writing, film and media in TAFE NSW Institutes are eligible to apply.

The Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year - Closing Date TBA
The Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year is a competition for talented young writers, culminating in the publication of a short story by the winning student. Secondary school students in Years 10 to 12 throughout NSW and the ACT are eligible to enter. You must submit an original short story 1000 words in length. Entry packs, containing posters and an entry form were sent to to the Head of English, at schools in NSW and the ACT at the beginning of Term 2.

Term 4

National Awards for Quality Schooling Closing Date TBA
The awards are open to people working in pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, in all sectors. Teaching Australia encourages school communities to reflect on their achievements and to nominate individuals or schools for one of the seven award categories.
