Literacy also includes the recognition of number and basic mathematical signs and symbols within text.

The Teaching literacy in English section contain a comprehensive unit of work on writing persuasive text. It contains explicit and systematic teaching for engagement of all students through modelled, guided and independent planning and writing.

Enhancing literacy in secondary English (ElisE) NSW teachers of secndary English worked in project teams to develop the resource material that is featured in ElisE. The projects focus on how teachers identified the literacy requirements of the Stage 6 English syllabus, and worked to design programming and teaching and learning strategies to meet these requirements.
