Australian Music - Composers Reveal
Three Australian composers are featured below in these interactive resources based on a discussion of their respective approaches to composition.

In a series of professional learning sessions, Aboriginal musician Matthew Doyle demonstrated compositional techniques using didjeridoo and vocal percussion as well as highlighted his collaborative work with Riley Lee, shakuhachi master.

Further activities regarding Matthew's work and his collaboration with Riley can be found in the Centre for Learning Innovation’s unit of work Music of Our Place available for free download from www.tale.edu.au

One of Australia’s most acclaimed, accomplished and important contemporary Indigenous artists, Matthew Doyle is probably best known for his dancing, but as he stresses, song and dance cannot be separated in Aboriginal culture, one informs the other.

An online resource incorporating video of Matthew teaching his Welcome Song is available here.

As a result of attending the workshop, Jasmine Jones had her Year 9 students perform Matthew's Welcome Song at Ashcroft High School for Reconciliation Day 4 June 2008.
