Creative Arts syllabus workshops in 2008
Workshops and online courses to support the implementation of CREATIVE ARTS syllabuses for Stages 5 and 6 will be conducted across the state in Terms 1-4 2008.
The workshops will focus on subject-specific content identified for support in recent workshop evaluations. A registration fee of $110 (incl. GST) per participant (or $220 for non-government teachers) will include morning tea and lunch and all workshop materials. Not all courses are available to non-government teachers - please check individual courses below.
Dance
Online Composition Course (Years 11-12)
Terms 1-4 2008
An online composition course for secondary dance teachers will be offered across the state in Terms 1-4 2008. There are four modules in the course:
- Module 1: Orientation
- Module 2: Generating movement
- Module 3: Organising movement
- Module 4: Organising the dance
Each module’s duration is approx 10-15 hours over a term. Module 1 is a pre-requisite for the other three modules, which can be accessed in a self-paced way. Teachers will participate in a series of events including development of teaching strategies for composition, discussion forums and judging work samples.

New Course Prescriptions 2010-2012
These workshops will explore teaching and assessment strategies for new course prescriptions (choreographers and works) for Core and Major Study appreciation. These prescriptions will be published by the Office of the Board of Studies in Term 3 2008.

Drama
Gen-savvy Drama Project
These workshops will provide drama teachers and other gender interested teachers with access to a new resource that has been implemented in DET schools across NSW in 2008. This is a unique new resource developed by the Creative Arts Unit and funded by the Priority Schools and Equity Coordination Unit. The resource uses and applies drama methodologies to engage students in Stages 4 & 5 and their teachers in critical dialogue about gender issues, whilst also addressing the Drama curriculum areas of improvisation and playbuilding. The resource has four modules that investigate gender through drama in relation to girls’ education; boys’ education; gender equity issues and teacher professional learning.

Drama Stage 6 New Prescriptions HSC 2010
Support for the implementation of new Stage 6 Drama Course Prescriptions (2010-2012). These workshops will address new topics and changes to HSC Drama Course Prescriptions. Workshops will give teachers practical ideas for the classroom in terms of programming, teaching and assessing the new HSC Drama topics. These prescriptions will be published by the Office of the Board of Studies in Term 3 2008.

Music
ICT in Music
Following the success of the online music technology courses for secondary music teachers in 2007 and 2008, a one day face-to-face workshop will be offered in Goulburn and the North Coast Region in Semester 2 2008. Building on 2005 and 2006 music technology workshops this session supports the Connected Classroom.
Participants explore the practical application of ICT, incorporating a variety of freeware and other software, with hands-on experiences such as podcasting for the music classroom. Opportunities for exploring and experimenting using integrated approaches provide participants with new ideas to connect their classrooms.

Visual Arts
4D/Moving/Time Based forms 7-12 Contemporary video art practice
Workshops will be conducted in metropolitan and regional locations to support the implementation of 4D forms in teaching and learning programs from Year 7 to Year 12.
The workshop program will focus on the new resource Move video in art in schools as a departure point for investigating contemporary video art practice, the work of contemporary video artists, the historical development of video practice, research tasks and activities, developing case studies, programming and assessment.
