Competitions, events and performances listed on this part of our site provide opportunities for students and teachers beyond the classroom. Many of these activities are linked to syllabus outcomes and can be readily incorporated into classroom learning.

HAVE YOU JOINED VADEA?
The Visual Arts and Design Educators Association of NSW seeks to promote the study of Visual Arts and Design education and to inspire and support visual art and design teachers. VADEA is a new professional teachers' association that has replaced the Art Education Society in NSW.

Our goals include:
* Enhance the professional status of art and design educators in NSW

* Foster opportunities for professional development and promote of best practice in the field Visual Arts and design education

* Provide a forum to share ideas and establish a robust professional network, and support teachers through workshops, conferences, website, publications and other resources

* Connect visual arts and design educators in a range of fields, including galleries, museums, universities, high schools and primary schools. And service the needs of educators in both metropolitan and regional areas.

2009 Awards for Excellence in Music Education
Nominations are now being called for the 2009 Awards for Excellence in Music Education, which aim to recognise music teachers and school leaders for their exceptional contribution to enhancing the status and quality of music education in their schools. There will be up to eleven teacher Awards and up to two school leader Awards. Each recipient of an Award will receive a certificate and a cheque for $5,000, which is intended to be used to further their professional learning related to music education. The closing date is Friday, April 17, 2009, and all details about the 2009 Awards, including guidelines, and nomination forms are available at

Music.Count Us In is a national initiative to promote music education in schools.

All schools across Australia are encouraged to participate in Australia’s biggest school music event in 2009 by joining a nationwide network of singers and players to perform a song.

Teachers’ 2009 resources incorporating sound files, lyric and sheet music for string ensembles, rock bands, concert bands, choirs and other instrumentalists will be available for download from the Music Count Us In website.

ArtExpress 2009

ArtExpress is an annual exhibition of artworks created by students from government and non-government schools for the Higher School Certificate Examination in Visual Arts.

The works demonstrate exceptional quality across a broad range of subject matter, approaches, styles and media including painting, photography, drawing, graphics, sculpture, wearables, ceramics, design, film and video, computer generated works and collection of works.
