School Libraries and Information Literacy SCIS
Instructions for Submitting Cataloguing to SCIS
Please enclose an itemised list of the resources being sent to SCIS for cataloguing. This provides your school with a record of the material being sent. After cataloguing the list is returned to the school with your box of resources and acts as a checklist to ensure all items sent to SCIS have been correctly returned.
Schools are asked to bear the cost of post/courier to SCIS at the following address:
SCIS Cataloguing Team
Curriculum K-12 Directorate
NSW Department of Education and Training
Private Bag 3
Ryde N.S.W. 2112
SCIS uses State Mail to post boxes and parcels back to schools at their nominated address. Return via courier can only be arranged at the cost of the school.
Please ensure up to date contact details for the teacher librarian, covering preferred school name and addressing, are included with resources in case SCIS needs to discuss any matter that arises during the cataloguing process.
Resources are returned with the SCIS number annotated in pencil on the flyleaf or title page of books. Computer discs and audiovisual material is returned with a printed copy of the SCIS MARC record attached in the item packaging. The 001 tag of this printout carries the SCIS number for the relevant catalogue record.
SCIS numbers can be used instead of the ISBN, or where there is no ISBN, to order MARC records on SCIS Web in the create orders screen.
For information to clarify any of these matters or concerning the progress of your resources through the cataloguing process please phone:
