A set of documents on the effective use of computer-based technologies, each volume focuses on a particular key learning area (KLA). Bringing together the experience and expertise of teachers from across the state, there is one book for use by K-6 teachers, Computer-based technologies in the primary KLAs, and one book for each KLA Years 7-12. Making the Net returns worthwhile: information skills and the Internet: a training and development module for teachers (1996) Department of School Education SCIS 886031

Aiming to promote the effective use of information technology, Making the Net returns worthwhile enables teachers to apply a range of information skills to the Internet as a tool to improve student learning. Written as a tutorial with practical activities and opportunities for collegial discussion, a copy was sent to all NSW DET schools and will soon be available here.  A copy of Information skills in the school was also included as a support document.

This document provides guidelines and practical ideas for developing a policy, in consultation with the school community. Workshop resources are provided to promote awareness and discussion within the school community.

  Scan

 

A professional journal for teacher-librarians and information technology staff in schools, Scan is published by the School Libraries and Information Literacy Unit at Curriculum K-12 Directorate. It specialises in promoting the effective use of resources and information services across the whole curriculum. Each issue contains articles by practising teacher-librarians, research columns and approximately 200 resource reviews, including 80 Internet site reviews. Scan  subscription forms are available by faxing (02) 9886 7413 to request a form, or download a copy of the current form.

Core collection

 The Core Collection List is intended to support and guide the establishment of an initial collection for new school libraries, and as a reference tool for collection maintenance and development by established school libraries (intranet only).

Respect and responsibility

Reviews to support the teaching of respect and responsibility is a list of resources, with reviews, to aid in the selection of resources in the teaching of respect and responsibility.
