Using the SCIS OPAC

SCIS OPAC provides search options covering basic search, guided search and new SCIS records. Basic OPAC search provides for inquiry by:
Title,
ISBN or other international standard book numbers,
Author,
Subject,
Keyword,
Command,
and Dewey call number.

Curriculum Corporation provides the following basic search hints for the SCIS OPAC.

Title
Enter the first words of the title: Playing Beatie
Omit initial articles: Wind in the willows (not The wind in the willows)

ISBN/ISSN/ISMN
For ISBNs and ISMNs omit hyphens/spaces: 07336-0191-X is entered as 073360191X
For ISMNs include the M: M001062350
For ISSNs include the hyphen: 0033-5002

Author
For an Author (browse) search, names must be entered in catalogue entry order: Fox Mem
Use the Author (keyword) search to search names by keyword in any order: Mem Fox

Subject
Use the Subject (browse) search to browse a list of subject headings starting with the term you enter
Use the Subject (keyword) search to search for terms anywhere in the heading

Keyword
Enter words and/or phrases
Use quotes to search unique phrases: "world wide web"
Use ? to truncate: browser?

Command
Use and, or, not to combine search terms: Antarctica and website
Use ? to truncate: explor?; colo?r

Dewey call number
Enter a complete call number or the start of the number: 796.358; NZ821

Limits
Limits applied to a Basic search will also automatically apply to a subsequent Guided search
Limits cannot be applied to author and subject Basic searches

Enhancements to the SCIS OPAC have enabled new functions that will allow the user to locate resources, sort the list of search results, select specific resources from the list, create a bibliography of those resources selected and send the bibliography to an email address. The new functions are outlined in Making the most of the SCIS OPAC .
