School Libraries and Information Literacy FAQs
Scan, teacher-librarians' professional journal
How may I receive regular copies of Scan?
Scan is a quarterly publication and available on subscription. You can complete this subscription form and mail it with your cheque to The Subscriptions Clerk as shown on the form.
I have an idea for a great Scan article. What should I do?
Most Scan articles are commissioned rather than received unsolicited. However, letters to the editor are always welcome, as are suggestions for topics and writers for future issues. If you feel you have an article that may be of interest to Scan, please contact the editor at editor.scan@det.nsw.edu.au to discuss possible publication, Scan publishing conventions, and rates of pay for authors.
Articles are accepted subject to suitability for publication, eg content, length, current Departmental educational priorities and appropriateness to the journal's readership. The Scan audience includes: teacher-librarians; teachers; information technology specialists; school executives; and other interested educators. A useful document is Scan: guidelines for authors, which is available from The Editor by faxing on (02) 9886 7413 or sending an email to: editor.scan@det.nsw.edu.au
Are back copies of Scan available?
Limited back issues are available for sale at $10.00 each (includes handling and distribution within Australia). Note that some issues are sold out. Fax (02) 9886 7413 to inquire about availability before sending payment. Regretfully, photocopies of individual articles are not for sale.
How do I become a resource reviewer?
Reviewers for the resource review program are selected from Departmental teachers and teacher-librarians across New South Wales. Prospective reviewers, especially Internet reviewers, are welcome to contact The Review Coordinator by faxing (02) 9886 7413 or sending an email to: carol.thomas@det.nsw.edu.au
I know that Scan once reviewed a certain resource, but I can't recall in which issue the review was published. How can I find a particular review?
Each year's final issue (no 4) of Scan contains cumulative indexes of resources and authors reviewed in the journal for that year. These indexes make it easier to locate a certain review. Also, these reviews and many others have been uploaded to the Resource reviews database and can be located via a search engine. Many additional web site reviews relevant to Higher School Certificate courses are available on NSW HSC online.
