School Libraries and Information Literacy FAQs
Committees
Do I need a library committee?
Many schools establish library committees. They find that participation of other members of the school community helps to ensure that the library's information services effectively meet the needs of the whole school. For further information consult the Handbook for school libraries (second edition) page 6 or online at Handbook Section 1 the Library in the School.
Should I join other committees in my school?
It is a good idea to join committees in the school. Consider to which committees you can make the most valuable contribution, for example, the curriculum committee or finance committee. As it is impossible to join every committee it is important that you are available to attend meetings when matters relevant to the library educational program are discussed, for example, the technology committee discussing future computer network plans.
