How can I configure my barcode reader?

Check with Function 00 to ensure that your ASP Barcode reader is Model 258 or greater. (If it is less, speak to the manufacturer to arrange an upgrade. ASP Barcodes can be contacted by phoning 1800 061 642.)

Here are the instructions to set your ASP portable barcode reader to read ISBN barcodes. If it is the BCR 258 model or greater, select Function 04. At each of the following, press < Enter > :

Send codabar start/stop codes N
CB stop codes in same set Y
CB start/stop in upper case Y
UPC output as 12 digit? Y
Expand UPC-E to UPC-A? N

At the next prompt, Convert "978" EAN-13 to ISBN: Change N to Y
At the final prompt, Slow scan?: N, then press < Enter > .
The reader should now scan OASIS barcodes and ISBN barcodes.

How do I clear the memory on the ASP Portable barcode reader?

Disconnect the barcode reader from the home base

Select <Function 19>
Select <Y>es to erase memory
to check the memory is clear select <Function 23>
The scan should read zero (0) scans in memory
Reconnect barcode reader to home base.

How do I fix an ASP portable barcode reader that is not scanning correctly?

Remove barcode reader from the home base
select Function 08 from the keypad of the reader
it will prompt to restore default factory settings
respond by selecting the YES key
the reader should now be able to scan barcodes correctly
reattach to home base.

How do I change a borrower barcode number?

Select <B2-E1>
Find student by name
Select <C>hange option from the option bar wand or type the next free barcode
Press enter to accept the new barcode

Can I use a barcode reader to create the order for SCIS records?

The barcode reader can be used to scan the ISBNs to Create orders (both online and offline orders). It can be used with SCISWeb, or with a word processing package (to create an offline order). Using a barcode reader increases the speed with which you can create orders and of course avoids the problem of typographical errors.
