School Libraries and Information Literacy FAQs
Cataloguing and classification
I am new to a school. How do I catalogue the resources on to OASIS Library?
Every school in NSW is part of the statewide subscription to the Curriculum Corporation's SCISWeb. This product does the cataloguing for you. More information is available at the Schools Catalogue Information Service site.
What do I do if I think there is a problem in a SCIS cataloguing record?
Please contact the NSW SCIS Agency with a brief description of the problem, the record number and your contact details. SCIS NSW can be contacted by fax on
What do I do if there isn't a matching record on SCISWeb?
SCIS catalogue records are created by SCIS agencies located in most Australian states. Agencies catalogue resources that they receive from schools. There will not necessarily always be a matching record for the ISBN of every resource searched for by schools and when this occurs it is usually because no agency has had the opportunity to catalogue it. Depending on the age of the resource (new resources only recently published may take time to appear on SCISWeb) for a catalogue record to be added to the national database the resource needs to be submitted for original cataloguing.
If you find resources that are not on SCIS and you want them catalogued for your school they may be sent to the NSW Agency at:
