STUDIO LOG

Group 1

(2 Unit Course 1)

Week 1

We have used a slightly different approach to our composition. We have tried to capture an art music feel with dischord. Flattened 5th's have played a major part of this piece.

Week 2

Week 3

I added a church organ to play 'the main notes of the chords to give a more powerful feel'. (Michael)

I added piano to the ending to give it a darker feel and fixed up some of the drums. I added Cello to the bass line of the first section (Tim)

Week 4

We didn't do a hell of alot this time, except to put a melody over the ending chords but I didn't like anything I came up with. Adieu, adieu to you and you and you. Tim und Mike.

Group 2

(2 Unit Related)

Week 1

We have decided to compose a piece of music in the Romantic Era. We are going to base the song on the poem "Kubla Khan" by ..........Colleridge. Based on the lyrics in the poem, we will try to convey the same feelings portrayed in the poem.

Week 2

Week 3

We have created a bridge section after the repeat of the expostion/theme . The brass moves from a the E minor/dorian through C diminished and then into G Major. Timpani has been added to the 2nd repeated theme

Week 4

This week we have extended the length of our first section and altered our ending. However we are having trouble exploding the brass section into separate parts. We have added more brass and timpani

Week 5

We tried a theme, we are not sure however.

Group 1

(2 Unit Course 1)

Week 1

we have decided to copy the bass pattern several times because looping does not show on the notation score. For the first 2 bars we just have the bass. Drums join in after two bars and it is just bass and drums until the end of bar 4. Our drum pattern came from band in a box because none of us are drummers.

Week 2

The structure of our piece goes as follows; 2 bar intro - harmonica - bass - keyboard 4 bar bass groove - bass - drums - keyboard 8 bar melody - trumpet - bass - drums last bass/ trumpet note is held into bar 15 3 bar drum solo 2 bars - bass and drums

Week 3

This week we experimented with bass and keyboard riffs to go into the drum solo. We also added a guitar chord progression

Week 4

We tried adding an extra trumpet part a 3rd below but it sounds wrong - thats all we've had time for and our teacher said you could help us with why the 2nd trumpet sounds wrong.

Week 5

We brought forward the 3/4 drum beat so that it now begins as the trumpet ends rather than waiting a bar before entering. We have scrapped the guitar part we entered after the 3/4/ drums as we decided to go back to the original bass groove with a rhythm guitar stumming the chords Bb and C in time with the bass.

Group 2

(2 Unit Course 1)

Week 1

We worked out a basic drum beat on a keyboard. Then we mucked around with some chord progressions

Week 2

We have decided to include a rap section which has been written and we are currently experimenting with sound effects to go with it. A basic drum pattern has been decided upon for the rest of the song and we feel that we are making good progress. Fill ins and riffs are currently being improvised by bass and lead guitars.

Week 3

We have completed the rest of the first verse and are starting to think of new ideas for the chorus. We have started on a new bass pattern and slide. With this pattern we have added a drum beat which we think fits very well. This is at the end of the first verse. The guitarists of the group are now working together to find a suitable guitar pattern to fit with the song and the drum pattern.

Week 4

Week 5

The new second section was based on an idea that Alex came up with. It began as a chord progression and was developed through ideas and fills from Simon on lead and Lee on Bass. Nathan has written out his rap as the second part. Treyna and Greg are working on the drums and Jaime is working on the lyrics for the next bit.
