New K-6 Science and Technology Syllabus
In October 2006 Ms Carmel Tebbutt MP, the Minister for Education and Training, announced a review of the K-6 Science and Technology syllabus.
The existing Science and Technology syllabus will remain current until the new syllabus is released in 2010.
The current NSW Science and Technology syllabus and support document was first published in 1991. To maintain consistency across all syllabus documents the Science and Technology Outcomes and Indicators document was published 1999 and replaced pages 9 to 17 of the current syllabus. In 2005 the NSW Foundation Statements replaced the Stage Statements.
The Board of Studies is committed to a syllabus development process that provides opportunities for consultation and advice at key points from teachers and key organisations.
The process to develop the new syllabus involves four phases
Time line
- Phase 1 Syllabus review (Feb – Dec 2007)
- Phase 2 Writing brief development (Jan – Aug 2008)
- Phase 3 Syllabus development (Aug 2008 – Dec 2009)
- Phase 4 Implementation (2011)
Through out 2007 the curriculum support web site will provide information to teachers about the development process such as dates and venues of consultation meetings.
