Colour preferences and design

Students explore people’s preferences for colour and use the information and the design and make process to undertake the role of a fashion designer or advertising consultant.

  


  

Weather and climate

This unit combines the development of designs for instruments to measure and record weather changes.  The students undertake investigations of weather changes and use the instruments for recording the data.

  


  

Advertising

Students explore how to use and manipulate information and communication media to create perceptions about products.

 


  

School environmental audit

Students undertake a range of investigations of the use of various resources, e.g. water, electricity, paper, in the school and design a campaign to make changes in their use across the school environment.

  


  

The science of forensics

Students undertake the basic processes of a forensic investigation of a crime scene created at school and discuss the associated ethical issues of collecting data.

  


  

There’s gold out there!

Students create a model representation of a gold mining town considering materials used, building methods and limitations, transport and facilities.

  


  

A house for now and the future

Students engage in a design and produce process to develop a house. A focus on energy sources, regulations and consequences of decisions is an important part of the unit.

  


  

Let there be light

Students investigate the features of electrical circuits and undertake the development of an electrical device for use in a remote area.
