EnergyAustralia Electricity Safety Week 2008 Competition
Electricity Safety Week is an annual program organised by EnergyAustralia.
Electricity Safety Week aims to support teachers to educate students about electricity and electrical safety. In 2008, Electricity Safety Week will be held in Term 3 from September 1 to 5.
To support teachers, Energy Australia in conjunction with the NSW Department of Education and Training has developed a stage 3 Science and Technology unit of work. The unit of work supports the development of the investigating scientifically, design and make and the physical phenomena stage 3 outcomes of the K–6 Science and Technology syllabus.
Electrical Safety Week competition
To further support teachers and encourage participation in Electrical Safety Week activities, Energy Australia invites teachers and schools to enter the Electrical Safety Week Competition. The competition for Stage 3 students encourages students to use their understanding of electrical energy to design a model of a product that uses electricity. Students will need to explain the safety features that they have included in their design.
The competition is open to all schools located within the EnergyAustralia network area. The major prizes are class excursions to the Renewable Energy exhibition at Sydney Olympic Park to undertake one of the terrific science learning programs.
Teachers can register for the competition here. All participating teachers will receive a prize pack for their class.
All schools are welcome to use the online teaching resource, which can be used at any time during the school year.
2007 competition: winner’s comment
“They enjoyed the activities at Olympic park … this actually showed them what fair testing and experimenting is about. We don't have equipment available to do this at my school …

Teacher training workshops
Workshops are being held across the EnergyAustralia network area for teachers during June 2008. These workshops will be run by DET and are designed to enable teachers to extract maximum usefulness out of the Electricity Safety Week teaching resource.
