Curriculum support for NSW Public Schools

What is involved in the Live Life Well @ School program?

The focus of the Live Life Well @ School program is on increasing opportunities for students to be active during school time and encouraging them to become informed decision-makers regarding their own lifestyle. The program involves schools exploring the teaching of fundamental movement skills and nutrition education as part of the PDHPE K-6 curriculum. Schools nominate a team of teachers to be involved in the project. School teams will develop and implement an action plan for initiating a sustainable change in PDHPE in the school context.

Schools involved in Live Life Well @ School participate in four professional learning workshops. A one-day planning workshop will be an introduction to the program. This will be followed by a two-day workshop that will allow schools to develop an action plan and to share ideas for developing a program that meets the needs of the students at your school. An additional workshop will be held about twelve months later to update school teams and to provide an opportunity for schools to share the progress of the program in their school. The program is a longitudinal one with the school expected to commit to the project for a year.

As part of the process in this project, schools will review current physical education and health programs through the action research model. Current pedagogy and practices for teaching PDHPE will be explored as well an update of the resources available from the Department of Education and Training and NSW Health for supporting curriculum and community education initiatives.
