What is gymnastics about?

Gymnastics in the PDHPE K-6 syllabus explores the different ways the body can move and provides a foundation for skills associated with movement activities. Gymnastics provides students with opportunities to explore what their bodies can do, the space within which their bodies can move, the effort involved in the movement and the environment within which such movement takes place.

It does not involve Olympic or competitive style gymnastics!

The focus for gymnastics in PDHPE K-6 is on exploring various movement experiences involving locomotor and non-locomotor skills, leading to the acquisition of some specific gymnastic skills. Students learn to control their body in a variety of situations. The PDHPE K-6 Syllabus content for gymnastics recommends movement experiences that are appropriate for all students.
