Investigating learning objects in Mathematics K-6
The NSW Department of Education and Training has been involved in the development of a range of “interactives” to support the teaching of the new Mathematics K-6 syllabus. These “interactives” are essentially small-bandwidth learning objects. Learning objects are described as re-usable, small digital resources that can be used with a web browser.
A sample of these learning objects was distributed to NSW primary schools towards the end of 2003 on a CD-ROM with the teaching resource Fractions: pikelets and lamingtons. The objects included a digital version of a geoboard, a number ribbon, a pikelet sharing application as well as a fraction track. The Count Me In Too website also has 16 learning objects in the children's section. Teacher support material, for several of these learning objects, includes syllabus links and complementary on and off computer tasks. This material may be accessed through the pdf link below.
