Annyoung haseyo! 안녕하세요!
Welcome to the Korean homepage
Korean, the language of one of Australia’s significant Asian neighbours, is spoken by a population of more than 80 million people in Korean communities worldwide. The Republic of Korea is one of Australia’s major trading partners. Recent years have seen an expansion in exchanges related to government, industry, commerce and technology. There has also been increasing contact between the Republic of Korea and Australia in the spheres of education, the arts, sport and tourism.
Learning Korean introduces students to a wealth of culture and tradition dating back more than 5,000 years. For background speakers, this valuable learning experience is further enhanced by the opportunity to maintain and develop their Korean language skills.
The skill of being able to communicate in Korean and to understand Korean philosophies, beliefs and ways of thinking will provide students with future employment opportunities, both domestically and internationally, in areas such as commerce, tourism, hospitality and international relations.
In NSW Korean language is offered at primary and secondary school for both background and non background speakers. The Saturday School of Community Languages also offers Korean background speakers program for Y7 to 12.
