Evaluating HSIE and ASR for primary school leaders
Leading HSIE in your primary school: A Curriculum K-12 Directorate HSIE primary workshop
This workshop is designed for executive teachers and their HSIE coordinators. The workshop will examine the roles and responsibility of HSIE curriculum leaders who are planning on evaluating HSIE for the annual school report or who have already evaluated HSIE and now need to update school curriculum plans as a result. This workshop is not suitable for teachers seeking Professional Competence accreditation.
The workshop will develop participants background knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning in the HSIE K-6 syllabus in the context of the K-10 continuum. It will develop strategies to undertake a whole school review of HSIE teaching and learning and provide a model to develop updated school HSIE curriculum plans.
Specific aspects related to school planning and management include:
· curriculum links, teaching priorities and opportunities in HSIE
· actions to improve teaching and learning of HSIE K-6
· DET policy requirements in the context of HSIE
· strategies to undertake a school evaluation of HSIE
· revision of school HSIE curriculum plans

Unpacking the civics in the HSIE K-6 syllabus, strategies for teaching, resources and assessment.
A professional development course for Primary HSIE Teachers of Stage 3. The course identifies the civics and citizenship education in the HSIE K -6 Syllabus, examines the issues in civics and citizenship education and demonstrates practical strategies for effective implementation of civics and citizenship education. It includes information and resources on:
- democratic process and our system of government
- NSW Parliament
- election processes and procedures
- active citizenship and community involvement
- school and class parliaments.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit the parliamentary chambers and engage with resources to support civics and citizenship education.
