Assessment ideas for K–6 music

The following assessment strategies are based on music units from Vocal-Ease modules 3 & 4. A program overview, an assessment strategy and a teacher observation sheet has been included for each of the pieces listed below.

Program overview

The program overview provides information on outcomes, indicators, syllabus content (what students learn to do and learn about), a sequence of activities, key assessment opportunities, literacy links (where appropriate) and resources needed for teaching this unit.

Detailed teaching activities and recordings for these units are provided in the Vocal-Ease (modules 3 & 4) resource.

Assessment strategies

A variety of assessment strategies have been included. Some of them are intended as assessment of learning and others as assessment for learning. They include portfolio items, peer assessment, self assessment and tasks for teacher observation.

Teacher observation sheets

The teacher observation sheets include the outcomes and indicators covered by each unit of work with space for class names to be added. If the entire unit is taught, it would be appropriate to record an observation for student achievement against each of the indicators.       top
