Literacy and numeracy through the arts
Stage 3 units of work demonstrate how literacy and numeracy learning can be embedded in arts programs, and also how the arts develop particular understandings in these areas. The drama unit, THROUGH THE DOORWAY, uses Donald Friend's artwork "An Exotic Garden Viewed At Different Levels" as an initial focus, and this theme is developed through a variety of mime and improvisation activities. The unit is integrated with a literacy focus which develops children's descriptive writing and narrative writing skills.
