Using texts as a starting point in drama

Using texts as a starting point in drama

Text provides an excellent starting point for students in drama. Teachers can select texts based on the literacy levels of their students. For younger students teachers can use spoken words. More experienced students will find that short stories and poems are a starting point for the development of role and improvisation work across the drama forms.

Some examples of texts that can be used as starting points include:

·       script

·       poem

·       random words

·       extract from storybook

·       extract from newspaper

·       short scenario

·       greeting cards

·       shopping dockets

The texts identified in these pdf files are suggestions only. If these texts are not available in your school choose a similar text and match it to an appropriate drama learning activity listed in the section.
