Stage 3 Dance Resources

This page provides a sample scope and sequence and units of work and learning activities for Stage 3 dance. The units of work may need to be modified to reflect the needs or experiences of the students.

New! Dance in COGs: Living Land

This sample sequence of learning activities has been adapted from the Stage 3 unit of work Living Land. The learning experiences expand on the information available in the COG unit to provide teachers with further strategies for addressing the needs of students with varying abilities in dance.

Scope and sequence

The Creative Arts K–6 Syllabus outlines the scope for dance in performing, composing and appreciating. The scope is specifically described in terms of the relationships between the elements of dance and dance contexts.

Units of work that the school has devised, as well as units of work that appear in support documents such as Quantum leaps and the Creative Arts K–6 Units of Work are appropriate starting points for inclusions in a scope and sequence. Some units of work may need to be modified to reflect the needs or experiences of the students. It is important that units of work build upon knowledge, understanding and skills gained in other units of work across each of the stages.

Units of work

Stage 3 Dance unit of work: Dance solutions (pdf - 92kb)
Experimentation with the elements of dance is the focus of this unit. Students begin to work with an element of dance – shape and develop movement by experimenting with size, dimension, pathway and volume. This unit helps students develop numeracy skills and an understanding of creating dance using abstract ideas. A further exploration could take another element of dance e.g. time and explore speed, stillness, levels and pathway.
