Road Safety Education resources for primary schools
Road safety education needs to be developmentally appropriate, ongoing and sequential from Kindergarten to Year 6. The PDHPE K-6 Syllabus includes specific road safety content in each stage within the Safe Living strand.
Kindergarten Orientation Day
As children enter Kindergarten their exposure to the traffic environment increases. Kindergarten Orientation Day is a great time for your school to provide road safety information to parents and carers.

Move Ahead with Street Sense resource
The Move Ahead with Street Sense resource kits for Stage 1 (incorporating Early Stage 1), Stage 2 and Stage 3 were issued to all primary schools. The resources contain a wide range of teaching and learning activities, big books, picture packs, games and songs.

The road safety education activities listed below are available for download from the website under the PDHPE tab. These cannot be downloaded from home.
Ben's bike - Early stage 1 (can only be downloaded at a DEC school)
Travelling safely to school - Stage 1 (can only be downloaded at a DEC school)
Wheels - Stage 2 (can only be downloaded at a DEC school)
Safe journey to school - Stage 3 (can only be downloaded at a DEC school)
The Bus Safety resource consists of teaching and learning activities for students in Stage 3 and Stage 4 and supports the Personal Developement, Health and Physical Education K-6 and 7-10 Syllabuses. The resource aims to increase bus safety awareness for students and supports the main bus safety messages promoted by Transport for NSW and the Department of Education and Communities.
iRide, iRead, iThink book rap
iRide, iRead, iThink is a road safety education book rap that is available to support the National Year of Reading. The book rap includes activities suitable for PDHPE students in Stages 2 and 3. Students can share their learning about riding and being safe through uploading comments to a blog and sharing creations in a gallery.
