Professional learning
INTRODUCTION
The state literacy team provides support to both regions and schools through a variety of programs and resources.
The team's responsibilities include development and implementation of policies, new initiatives and resources for schools, regions, teachers and parents. In addition, the literacy team conduct research, provide support and training for teachers and consultants in literacy programming and assessment as well as opportunities for online professional learning.

Early career teacher induction: Literacy middle years
The Early career teacher induction: Literacy middle years course has been developed in response to Strategic Action Area 4.0 Professional learning in the State Literacy Plan 2006-2008.
State Office will support schools and regions by:
Providing induction programs for early career teachers on how to teach literacy in a balanced, integrated way that includes evidence-based approaches to the teaching of literacy.
The course is intended to support early career teachers of Stage 3 and Stage 4 to assist students to achieve syllabus outcomes by incorporating literacy teaching practices.
Early career teacher induction: Literacy Middle Years is registered with the NSW Institute of Teachers for new scheme teachers accredited at Professional Competence.
Registration number: 151CUK039.
PD Hours: 15 hours.
Course organisation
The Early career teacher induction: Literacy middle years course includes four 180 minute workshops. Workshops 1-3 include between session tasks for participants to complete prior to the next workshop.
