School Library and Information Literacy policy support

NSW Department of Education and Training policy support documents for school libraries provide a guide to the integration of the school library into the school's educational program.

Information skills in the school [1989] NSW Department of Education.

A support document to Library policy - Schools, this resource presents a framework for the teaching of information skills across the school curriculum in the context of syllabus outcomes. The concept of collaboration between teacher-librarian and classroom teachers is central. Clarified in the document are:

• planning, implementing and evaluating learning activities.

Handbook for school libraries. [2 nd ed.] (1996) NSW Dept of School Education.

Although some elements of the first edition of the handbook have been retained, this edition addresses the emergence of information literacy as an essential component across all KLAs, particularly as new technologies develop and information is delivered in different formats. The handbook focuses on the creation of a learning environment which develops learners' information handling skills within an effective resource and technology infrastructure. It provides information and guidelines on the procedures and practices for policy development, and the organisation and management of information services in NSW government schools.
