School Libraries and Information Literacy Library policy document

NSW Department of Education and Training policy for school libraries provides a guide to the integration of the school library into a school's educational program.

This educational policy statement summarises the functions and integral role of the school library in NSW government schools, including:

•           collaborative teaching support
•           information services
•           personnel
•           materials and equipment
•           systems

This document informs the development of individual school policy statements outlining their library’s programs that support the school’s teaching and learning program. Information skills in the school and the Handbook for school libraries are support documents to the policy statement which provide additional, practical assistance.

For further information on school libraries, the role of the teacher-librarian, professional development opportunities for teacher-librarians and resources to support teaching and learning visit the School Libraries and Information Literacy website.
