Language and text have a strong social and cultural basis which globally connects religion, economics and politics. Contemporary Asian artists have developed postmodern political issues and arguments within their work. Issues explored include calligraphy as a historical convention or symbol of language, language as a servant of politics or propaganda and language as a symbol of popular culture.
