Performance, installation and film as artmaking practices
have been enthusiastically embraced by many contemporary Asian artists.
The traditional culture of artists have had an important influence on their
artmaking and been informed by their knowledge of contemporary western artmaking
practice. These artists find themselves in a world where their cultures
are undergoing change at a dizzying rate. However, even though their artworks
are characterised by cultural diversity, underpinning all their ideas and
actions is the theme of identity: cultural, social, personal, political.
