Multicultural Project
Project title
An investigation of contemporary and historical Asian art practices as an
increasingly important contribution to the Australian (and world) cultural,
political and economic scene.
Project aim
To support multicultural and difference and diversity as key areas of cross-curriculum
content in the new 7-10 Visual Arts, Photographic and Digital Media, Visual
Design and Stage 6 Visual Arts syllabuses.
Project description
• How Multicultural and Difference and Diversity as visual arts cross-curriculum
content areas inform art practice.
• How cultural identity informs artistic practice and how personal,
social and cultural differences can be examined and represented in artworks.
Project brief
A Collaborative project between the Creative Arts Unit, Curriculum K-12
Directorate, Department of Education and Training and the Art Gallery of
New South Wales
• To develop online resources for teachers and students based on current
multicultural themes and issues as a focus for developing case studies and
units of work
• To develop resources and a professional development workshop program
for teachers.
Anticipated project
outcomes
• To provide a range of perspectives for developing cross-cultural
understanding through contemporary and historical art practices
• To foster multicultural understanding and commitment to cross-curricular
content
• To provide programming strategies for valuing different cultures
and beliefs in visual arts and how aspects of cultural identity inform artistic
practice.
