LU QING

Untitled
Acrylic on silk

Background
Lu Qing (born in Shenyang, China 1964)
In an ongoing performance, Lu Qing has been applying calligraphic marks to a roll of silk since 1997. In this, she is continuing the traditions of repetition in order to gain perfection as well as following a time-honoured convention of calligraphy and ancient Chinese aesthetic principles. She will included in the Sydney Biennale 2006, Zones of Contact.

Quotation
I don’t think what I’m doing is art. In many cases in fact, it makes me forget what art is all about. I cannot explain it before I do it. I don’t need to explain it after have done it. Painting is painting itself.
