Curriculum K-12 Directorate

Core Business

The Curriculum K-12 Directorate promotes and supports quality teaching and learning in NSW public schools. The Directorate leads and coordinates

  • the development of curriculum policy and
  • the provision of curriculum products and services,

so as to

  • improve student outcomes and
  • enhance teacher capacity.

The directorate aims to support teachers in all curriculum areas and across all stages of schooling – to assist staff in NSW public schools to implement Board of Studies syllabuses as well as Government and Departmental priorities and policies.

The directorate also develops strategic relationships with other agencies and groups so that we can maximise the use of resources and expertise.

Core functions

To achieve its goals, the directorate:

  • conducts professional development courses and workshops using a range of delivery modes
  • develops and publishes high quality resources in a range of media
  • leads the implementation of key government commitments and initiatives
  • provides advice to teachers, senior officers of the department and the Minister on curriculum issues and priorities.

The directorate also develops strategic relationships with other agencies and groups so that we can maximise the use of resources and expertise.
