National Solar Schools Program

Student learning opportunities

Developing a National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) funding plan for your school is one way to implement the Environmental Education Policy for Schools (2001) through an authentic student investigation.

Students can research sustainability issues and describe current water and energy use for their school.  There are a number of options to better manage energy and water use students can investigate for their school as part of developing a proposal for the National Solar Schools Program funding.

A school’s NSSP proposal and funding can be included in its school planning. A planning template has been developed for schools as part of the Sustainable Schools NSW program.

There are several steps for students to include as part of developing their proposal:

Information can be obtained from the following websites:

Monitoring resource management – Webgraphs

Schools will be able to access a specific energy monitoring tool ‘web graphs’ in order to record, measure and describe changes to energy use and management in their school.   This tool delivers high quality energy use data in a range of graphical and table formats that students can manipulate and display.

This data is provided via a web interface directly from the energy provider.

Learning materials using Webgraphs will be available mid Term 4.
