Reading Recovery Schools

Is the Reading Recovery program available in my local school?

Reading Recovery is a state-wide program in NSW government schools. In 2005 Reading Recovery is being implemented by 831 public schools in NSW.

It is anticipated that 7,500 public school students will benefit from receiving the program this in 2005.

Selection of schools for Reading Recovery is based on:

• The type and number of literacy support programs already in the school (including Reading Recovery)
• The number of students needing assistance
• The school's Basic Skills Test results (percentage of students in lowest bands)
• The number of students of non-English speaking and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background
• The relative socio-economic disadvantage of school communities, measured by the Priority Schools Funding Program (PSFP) index
• Advice from the Regional Offices.

Schools selected, implement Reading Recovery according to the guidelines of the Department of Education and Training.

Reading Recovery forms an integral part of the school's total literacy program.
