Probability spinners

In this lesson students use the Spinners series of learning objects to create, test and use spinners to perform probability experiments. The experimental results are then compared to the theoretical probability of each situation.

Budgeting

Given a set budget to work within, students design or recreate the floor plan for a house including all measurements, using Word or Google SketchUp. Using the measurements on the plan, students calculate the area of the house and make appropriate costings. Students then create a spreadsheet in Excel demonstrating they can afford the house they have designed or adjusting the design until it meets the budget constraints.

In this learning object students work through a tutorial about stem-and-leaf graphs, and then choose an investigation from a set of three. Students enter their own data in some investigations. For example, test the reaction time of your preferred hand against your non-preferred hand. Construct a stem-and-leaf graph, calculate the mean and identify the median. Use the graph, the mean and median to draw a conclusion about the conjecture.
